PROGRAM

The Baldwin Wallace Symphonic Wind Ensemble performs a concert directed by Dr. Brendan Caldwell, BW Director of Wind Ensembles, featuring Dr. Gabriel Pique, Assistant Professor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies, as saxophone soloist on the show-stopping feature, “Fantasia for Alto Saxophone,” written by Claude T. Smith.

The concert will also include a moving tribute to the Sandy Hook tragedy by distinguished composer and Sandy Hook Elementary School alumnus Steve Danyew entitled “Into the Silent Land,” featuring Isabel Haskell narrating a poignant poem written by Christina Rosetti (1830-1984).

The concert will open with a fanfare written by Kimberly Archer for the inauguration of President Joe Biden, include a chamber ensemble composition by Robert Kurka entitled “The Good Soldier Schweik Suite,” and conclude with a rousing, creative, and whimsical new composition by Erica Svanoe entitled “Steampunk Suite.”

As recommended by CDC guidelines, face masks (N95/KN95 recommended) are required to be worn indoors at BW by all individuals regardless of vaccination status.

If you are unable to log in simultaneously to the live performance, the recording typically remains available throughout the remainder of the day, so you will be able to enjoy the program that evening as well.
