BW Honors Joel Treybig ’92 with the 2022 Conservatory Alumni Achievement Award.

The Conservatory of Music is pleased to announce that Joel Treybig ’92 is the recipient of the 2022 Conservatory Alumni Achievement Award. Dr. Treybig will be honored at the Symphonic Band & Symphonic Wind Ensemble Concert and will perform Evensong for Trumpet and Wind Ensemble by Stephen Gryc.

The Baldwin Wallace Symphonic Band & Symphonic features Dr. Brendan Caldwell, director of wind ensembles and BW Community Arts School ballet dancers.

About
Joel Treybig is Professor of Trumpet at Belmont University where he teaches trumpet students, coaches brass ensembles, and serves as Coordinator of Instrumental Studies. He has performed with symphony orchestras in Alabama, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas, as principal trumpet with Nashville Opera and Nashville Ballet, and with numerous pit orchestras and chamber groups. He performs frequently in and around Nashville as a freelance performer, regularly with the Belmont Brass Quintet, and is an active studio musician. Treybig’s performances of contemporary music have earned the praise of such American composers as John Cheetham, Eric Ewazen, Stanley Friedman, Stephen Michael Gryc, Karel Husa, Kent Kennan, Anthony Plog, and Joan Tower.

Treybig received his Doctor of Musical Arts in performance from the University of Texas at Austin, his Master of Music in performance from the University of Akron and his Bachelor of Music Education from Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music and has also completed postgraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music. His Primary teachers include Mary Squire, James Darling, Scott Johnston, Murray Greig, and Raymond Crisara. He has published multiple compositions and arrangements that are published by Eighth Note Publications, and his articles and music reviews have been published in the International Trumpet Guild Journal.

Treybig’s solo, chamber, and orchestral performances have been widely broadcast and streamed and he has recorded two CDs, entitled Lux et Lapis – Music for Two Trumpets and Organ, and Awakenings, with Adam Hayes, trumpet, and Andrew Risinger, organ. He has also recorded a CD of music for solo trumpet and organ with Andrew Risinger entitled Rhapsodia Sacra. Treybig is a Yamaha Performing Artist and performs exclusively on Yamaha instruments.
