My Journey: Dwight Oltman

Jenny TarabaAlumni & Friends

A message from Maestro Oltman:

Greetings and best wishes to all of my BW students from1970 to 2014! As I reminisce, I marvel at all the outstanding performances of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Bach Festival. Thank you very much for working so hard to achieve the excellence that I demanded. This communication was prompted because former students have urged me to write my memoir. Having finally done that, I am hoping that those who are retired will enjoy reading the story of my remarkably diverse career. I hope those active in the profession will receive inspiration from my dedication to keep growing as a musician and conductor throughout 59 years of full-time employment. Many thanks to the BW Conservatory of Music and Alumni Office for making this possible. KEEP SUBDIVIDING!

Thank you for considering a gift supporting the Oltman Family Instrumental Performance Prize in honor of Maestro Oltman's legacy at BW and his impacts on the careers of so many BW alumni. The Oltman Prize specifically focuses on students who demonstrate outstanding artistic achievement to fulfill the highest priority recruitment needs of the Conservatory. Recipients are recommended by the Symphony Orchestra director. As with all BW endowed funds, the greater the principal amount of this fund, the greater the revenue generated each year to provide a scholarship to a deserving student.

To make a gift to the Oltman Prize, please visit the BW giving page here and click on the drop-down menu options under “Area of Greatest Need.” You will then be able to select “Oltman Prize” to make sure your donation is properly credited and recognized.
