Location

PROGRAM

Presented by the Kulas Foundation.

DIDEROT STRING QUARTET presents, on period instruments, a healthy portion of one of J. S. Bach’s most moving and impressive (albeit not quite finished by Bach himself) musical offerings: the Art of Fugue. DSQ pairs this masterwork with the op. 74 quartet of Beethoven, who was an avid admirer and devotee of Bach. This gorgeous and daring “Harp” quartet shows that as Beethoven’s life and musical persona matured, he drew more and more upon the spirit and compositional styles perfected by Bach, obsessively taking them to new frontiers — looking, like Janus, both backwards and forwards.
